Pop-up store De Normaalste Zaak van Eindhoven opens its doors
How do you introduce Eindhovenaren to the amazing offerings of thrift stores and Repair Cafés in an accessible way? With a pop-up store right in the city center! From November 14 to 17, pop-up store De Normaalste Zaak van Eindhoven will open its doors at the Stadsstudio in De Heuvel, next to H&M. In the store, shoppers can browse unique finds from thrift stores including Dorcas, Het Goed, Cambodia-Dutch, Wereldhuis, Terre des Hommes, and Emmaus. Additionally, the eight Eindhoven Repair Cafés will offer a preview of their repair skills.
De Normaalste Zaak van Eindhoven is open Thursday through Saturday from 10:00 to 18:00 and Sunday from 12:00 to 18:00.
Pop-up De Normaalste Zaak van Eindhoven
Thrift stores and Repair Cafés are often located in the outskirts of Eindhoven. With this pop-up store, we are bringing the magic of second-hand and upcycling directly to the city center for four days, reaching a wider shopping audience. Visitors will find second-hand clothing, home decor, jewelry, tableware, records, books, and much more. These items are donated by local thrift stores, and all proceeds go to Stichting Speelcadeau, a toy bank supporting children in need.
The Repair Cafés will demonstrate how to repair household appliances, while various upcycling experts showcase ways to give items a second life. On Thursday afternoon, New Order of Fashion will be customizing clothing, bags, and hats with their embroidery machine. On Saturday and Sunday, Emmaus will show how to turn quirky “junk” into unique decorations. To add to the festivities, there’s a "thrift disco" on Friday afternoon with DJ Didier Jarneaux, who has scoured Eindhoven’s thrift stores to find the coolest and most unique records – all of which will be available for purchase!
About the initiative
The De Normaalste Zaak van Eindhoven campaign is an initiative by Eindhoven365 and the City of Eindhoven, aiming to highlight the city’s thrift stores and Repair Cafés. The name is a playful twist on the Dutch saying "de normaalste zaak van de wereld," meaning "the most natural thing in the world," emphasizing how choosing second-hand and sustainable options is becoming the norm. Our goal is to inspire people to consider second-hand options as good choices – finding something unique, giving items with a story a second life, saving money, and embracing sustainability.
In addition to the pop-up, we’ve created a convenient map of all the thrift stores, second-hand shops, and Repair Cafés in the city. You’ll also see messages around town encouraging second-hand shopping and upcycling.
